Who can use Naviguard?
Naviguard is available to UnitedHealthcare members who have qualifying employer-sponsored health plans. There is no additional cost for this service. To find out if you have access to Naviguard, call the member phone number on your health plan ID card.
When should I use Naviguard?
If you received care from an out-of-network provider, look at the explanation of benefits (EOB) you get from UnitedHealthcare. If the amount you owe is higher than your cost share, you may receive a balance medical bill from the provider. When you receive your bill, call us before you decide to pay. We’ll review it, and if needed, negotiate your bill with your provider.
How Naviguard can help reduce your balance medical bill
If we determine that you were billed too much, our negotiators may contact the provider on your behalf to try to agree on a lower amount. For example, Naviguard can negotiate excessive charges from specialists, X-ray services, lab analysis and other common out-of-network care situations.
We use extensive industry and provider knowledge combined with market data to determine the right rate for medical services. You won’t need to do anything — Naviguard handles all the negotiating and will keep you updated throughout the process. On average, it takes 30 to 45 days to negotiate a case initiated by a member.
