Group Medicare plans designed to help you achieve your business goals

Knowing what you need from a group Medicare plan is the first step in choosing coverage. Do you want to maintain current benefit levels, but lower your costs? Is it time to transition your retirees to individual Medicare coverage plans, or encourage them to get coverage through an exchange? Whatever your specific business needs may be, UnitedHealthcare will work with you to find group plans and coverage options to meet them.

What’s the difference between Medicare and Group Medicare?

There are distinct differences in the level of coverage available from individual Medicare plans and group Medicare plans. Learn how a group Medicare plan can provide more comprehensive coverage for your employees.

Medicare

Medicare, also known as Original Medicare or Medicare Parts A and B, is a federal government health insurance program available to people who are 65 or older. People under 65 may qualify if they have a disability or other special situation. Medicare helps millions of Americans cover some of their health care costs.

Group Medicare Advantage plans

Employers and plan sponsors can offer Group Medicare Advantage plans to employees when they retire.

Group Medicare Advantage plans typically reduce the gaps in coverage associated with Original Medicare. These plans help retirees retain the same or a similar level of coverage they enjoyed before retiring.

UnitedHealthcare offers several Group Medicare Advantage plans

UnitedHealthcare will work with you to design Group Medicare Advantage plans that fit your unique needs. You can offer your retirees cost-effective, comprehensive coverage and a seamless post-retirement transition to your group plan.

Group Medicare Advantage PPO plans

UnitedHealthcare has helped thousands of employers and plan sponsors transition their group retiree benefit plans to Medicare Advantage National Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans. Medicare Advantage PPO plans can offer the following benefits:

  • Effectively replaces employer plans that combine Original Medicare and a Medicare Supplement plan

  • When combined with a Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D), these plans may offer more complete coverage than was available to employees prior to retirement

  • Allows members to see health care providers in and out of network

  • Offers administrative and cost efficiencies to employers and plan sponsors

Group Medicare Advantage HMO plans

Medicare Advantage National Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans from UnitedHealthcare are another cost-conscious way to offer health care coverage to your retirees.

  • HMO plans provide coverage for plan members through a network of locally contracted doctors and hospitals

  • While HMO plans do not provide out-of-network coverage (except in emergencies), they may be more affordable

Group Medicare Part D prescription drug and wrap plans

Medicare Part D is the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit. When paired with Original Medicare, it helps members cover the cost of prescription drugs they take at home.

Medicare Part D plans from UnitedHealthcare are designed to be affordable and easy to use, providing members with access to a robust nationwide pharmacy network.

Wrap plans offer employers and plan sponsors more cost-sharing options for Part D drugs, and coverage of non-Part D eligible drugs. Wrap plans vary in price and the benefits they provide, depending on what you choose to offer your retirees.

AARP Group Medicare Supplement insurance plans

AARP Medicare Supplement insurance plans are insured by UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company (UnitedHealthcare).¹ These plans cover expenses not covered by Original Medicare, such as copays and coinsurance costs. They are available to retirees age 65 and older who are enrolled in Original Medicare (Parts A and B).
