What is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)?
If you're going through life changes and need help, it can be hard to know where to start. This is especially true if you don't want your friends or family to know. With an EAP, you can get 24/7 access to emotional support right away.
An EAP offers help for many types of situations. If you’re a UnitedHealthcare member with a health plan through work, your EAP offers short-term support and advice to help with:
- Managing anxiety, stress and depression
- Improving relationships at home or work
- Getting guidance on legal and financial concerns
- Coping with burnout or workplace challenges
- Addressing substance use concerns
When you reach out, a specialist will assess your needs and, if appropriate, connect you with licensed professionals or additional services.
This can be a good starting point for those who are uncertain about the type of support they need.
No-cost call
When EAP is included in your health plan, the call costs nothing.
Confidential
Your personal information is kept private, as required by law.

What to expect when you contact us
When you contact EAP, you will talk with trained well-being specialists. They will listen to your concerns and suggest support based on your needs, preferences and benefits. If you need more help, they can connect you to a master’s level specialist for in-the-moment support, coaches, in-person or online therapy, and tools like the Calm Health app.
